Yes, I'm sorry but I have to cancel this contest. I hate to do it-I really do...but if I didn't this contest wouldn't end. I had a lot of contestants and I hate letting all of you down. I know I warned everyone recently that if I didn't have enough contestants I would have to close the contest.
That was quickly solved...but I'm now stuck with another problem: My Judges aren't getting back to me with their scores about your portfolios. Without those scores everyone's only gotten scores in the the teens or twenties since
is the only Judge I've heard from. Plus, when I asked if they could contribute anything to this contest-they didn't say anything! They're obviously not checking back on this contestant list which I didn't HAVE to make in the first place and they're not sending in scores.
The judges are the reason I have to cancel. Obviously, I chose the wrong people to be judges.
BTW the REASON the deadline was October 20th was because that's my birthday!
So, I've decided that on October 14th to start a different contest.
The details of that (admittedly smaller) contest can be found here:fav.me/d5fntkr
I hate doing this and I know that every bad thing that's said to me after this point will be of my own making so I'll do my best take it all in stride. Hopefully, I can make up for this in the future.
Note: I tried messaging everyone earlier but I keep getting a DA Spam warning when I try. So, I'm sorry for that too.
And heck I'm sorry that all I can do is say I'm sorry! Man, I'm pathetic!
I understand that a lot of people are angry about this, so I'm officially going on a Hiatus. Maybe some people will calm down or I don't know. I've contemplated leaving DA lately and I might follow through with that. The amount of chaos on this site is just...overwhelming.
Since I got such positive feedback on my first contest, I've decided to hold this second contest.
First of you probably want to know the prizes so here they are!
First Place Prize:
Choice of three free deviations or two short stories
Choice of two free deviations or one short story
Choice of one free deviation or a one-shot story
And I'm going to add eight (8) 50
prizes!-I will be delivering these points myself as well, but my other judges will be deciding who receives these.
Now before I get to the judges and how the entries will be judged I'll need to tell you what you need to do.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
1. Make a journal spreading the word about this contest (The will be no favoriting or watching required. I see that in other contests and truthfully it pisses me off)
2. Create a folder in your Gallery Labeled, "Contest Portfolio"
3. Place what you believe are your defining art pieces into it
4. Post a link to the folder in a comment
5. Review the rules carefully
Now, it's time to meet our judges and see their preferences for contest criteria:
I'd like to see a similar theme throughout most of the artwork included, or else a similar style used each time. For example, it should be all photography or all acrylic paintings; I don't want a mix of each.
Also, the portfolios should not only show the artist's best works, but also some progression. A few works that the artist considered his or her 'best' a year ago compared to their 'best' work presently, for example.
It should also be obvious that the artist spent a lot of time on each piece of artwork they include in the portfolio, and I would like to be able to tell that the piece is one the artist is incredibly proud of.
-What the artists feels is the best representation of themselves and of their art
-What the art means and what art means to them personally
-An example of their worst artistic efforts, both best and worst must be an existing deviation
-What type of impact do they want to see from their art
Compile a minimum of four of your best pieces from here on dA. You can use anything, old or new but it needs to be here on dA and no less than four pieces.
In a portfolio, I'd really like to see different styles of artwork and such that they do. I want a really wide variety, and I want to see things they are really and truly proud of, not just: "Ehh... it looks pretty good, I guess."
I want to see art that is unique. Show me something that I haven't seen before.
NOTE: These are each judge's 'PREFERENCES,' NOT 'REQUIREMENTS' for your portfolio.
OK, now the dreaded part. The rules!
1. Once you enter a portfolio, it is locked in. Once it's entered you can not add or remove any deviations from it.
1a. The only way you can edit a portfolio is to create a brand new one, but it can't just be your original portfolio with a few different pieces. It would have to be composed of different deviations. So please, look over your portfolio carefully before you submit it.
2. ANY kind of art (traditional art, painting, literature, comic strips/pages, photography) is allowed with any subject or rating but please keep in mind who your judges are.
3. The DEADLINE is on October 20th, 2012. That gives you the remainder of this month and the three months following it.
3a. This deadline will not be altered
4. You do not have to draw anything to compete, this is just you collecting and organizing your work
5. All of us judges will be judging your work with personal 20 point systems. We'll match your work to our criteria and grade it over 20, the five of us together will make the full 100. The grades will only be shared between the judges until the deadline.
That's it! I hope some people are interested. If you have any questions, ask away.
We finally have some contestants!
